Google could be soon to take Apple and Microsoft route by creating its own smartphone, a new report suggests.
Google developed Android OS many years ago without actually making a smartphone. Instead, the company partnered up with various smartphone manufacturers to create Nexus-branded devices that running the latest version of Android. But Google is now rumored to be considering the release of its own smartphone, as reported by The Information.
By launching their own smartphone, they would have complete control over both the hardware and software, allowing them to greater control over various aspects of the phone. However, it’s still unclear if Google has a timeline for its plan to build phones, or if the idea as a whole will be scratched. But there are other ways that Google is trying to gain more control of Android production.
Earlier this month it was reported that Google is considering of developing its own Android chips. If the plans come to fruition, they could provide a uniformity to the platform that could help avoid the fragmentation that Android is notorious for.
